Spring in the City

A couple of months ago, my grandmother told me, "You haven't seen spring until you've seen it in New York." And boy, was she right. The weather has been so gorgeous here the past couple weeks, it makes me want to burst into song. On my most recent visit to Central Park, the atmosphere reminded me of this:

Film in NYC

One of my favorite things about NYC is its prominent film scene. There’s a certain passion for film here that I haven’t experienced anywhere else (outside of The Reel Deal, of course), which is why it’s the perfect place for movie buffs. In addition to the premieres and shoots that happen on any given day, there are plenty of screenings and conversations going on all over the city. Here are some I've attended:

Mad Men Top 10

I've been eating and breathing Mad Men at my internship for the past week and a half. In preparation for this Sunday's Season 7 premiere, I've created YouTube playlists, conducted clip research, and compiled a top ten list of the best musical moments on the show for Culturalist. Check it out here

Working My Way Down My Bucket List

Yesterday was the second Saturday in a row where we've had at least one day of gorgeous weather: 55 and sunny. And what did I do? Spend the whole afternoon indoors. It was completely worth it, though, because I was in the beautiful Rose Reading Room of the New York Public Library. It was the perfect place to do some reading for my online class and be productive for a few hours --and cross something off my NYC bucket list. On the way to the library, I saw Grand Central Station for the first time. The famous terminal is even more beautiful in person and despite the hordes of people taking pictures on their smartphones, the place seems frozen in time. I half expected North By Northwest Cary Grant to push past me.

Internship Update

I apologize for the posting delay; it's been a busy couple of weeks. Here's what's been going on in my internship:

No Man's Land: Meeting Two Acting Legends

One of the many things on my NYC bucket list this semester is to see a few Broadway shows, and last Saturday, I went to the Cort Theatre to see No Man's Land, one of the "Two Plays in Rep" starring Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Billy Crudup, and Shuler Hensley-- and it was quite the experience.

My First Week as an Intern

My last post was published the night before my first day in The Paley Center's curatorial department, and I'm happy to say that it's going really well so far; I love my internship! It combines my passion for history and media, and I would be more than willing to have a career in this field, or at least a similar one.

A question I get a lot from people is, "What exactly is The Paley Center?" Their website sums it up best:

Hello, New York!

"I look out the window and I see the lights and the skyline and the people on the street rushing around looking for action, love, and the world's greatest chocolate chip cookie, and my heart does a little dance.” -Nora Ephron on New York City, in Heartburn

I can't believe I'm here.

I've been to New York City twice before for short visits and absolutely loved it, but if you told me one, two, or even five years ago that I would at this moment be in the city getting ready to start an internship at The Paley Center for Media, I'd say you were crazy. But now I'm here, and thus the adventure begins.
